The Answer:

ByPass Technology On All Four Corners…

The Raptor performance market is getting more and more crowded by the day, so the question is, how do you sift through the marketing gimmicks to choose the right shock for you?  The answer isn’t always easy, but with the right research and understanding of what makes a product stand above the rest, you just need to keep and open mind and do your homework.  When we set out to partner up with a company to build our systems around, we had the same questions as many of you.

Question like what is the difference between you and the other guys?  What makes your design superior to the others?  What kind of future support and product pipeline do you have?  And most important of all, does your shock allow us to fine tune it to exceed our customer’s needs?  After many long discussions, we ultimately came up with Fox Racing Shox.

On the outside the Fox 3.0 Internal ByPass Coilover looks like the others out there. Big, shiny and really fast.  But the real difference lies inside.  Unlike the others on the market, Fox was visionary enough to patent Internal Bypass technology a few years back, thus making them the only 3.0 shock for your Raptor that is able to run actual bypass technology on all four corners of your truck.  No matter what the others say, or fancy gimmicks they try to convince you of, non are a true bypass shock, and are therefore unable to be tuned for both the velocity of the piston, and just as important, the placement of the piston inside the shock body.

It’s no secret that every unlimited race truck and buggy that starts the Baja 1000 runs a bypass on all four corners of there vehicle.  This isn’t because the tubes look cool, or they feel like spending more money just because.  They all run bypass technology because there is no other current way to fine tune a shock for all aspects of an off-road environment.  The amazing thing about bypass technology is the shock tuner is able to tune the shock to ride very smooth and comfortable in the effective ride zone, but also has the ability to either firm up, or soften up the shock at certain points of the shock piston location via both piston and port valving, plus port location in the pistons stroke.  Through the use of bypass technology, we are able to deliver to you a shock that not only improves on road performance and comfort, but also provide you with much more power for when you need it most over the harsh whoops and long floating jumps.   Without bypass technology, you cannot tune for every aspect of the terrain.  With a fixed velocity sensitive only piston, the ride will be much harsher on road and through slow or washboard type of terrain, yet never feel totally dialed in over that fast whoops and rough stuff because the piston is totally reliant on piston valving only.

It’s also not by accident all of the major shock companies that offer 3.0”s for the rear of the Raptor offers a bypass setup on the rear.  For the reason listed above it makes perfect sense.  They all know this is the right way to approach shock tuning.  However, only Fox is able to run bypass technology in the front because of patent rights.  With bypass technology, there is no need to run compression adjusters which do nothing more than squeeze off essential oil flow to the reservoir which leads to greater amounts of heat in the shock, and possible cavitation issues because of increased pressure inside.  The best way to understand how a compression adjuster works, you need to look no further than your garden hose to get a better understanding of it.  To best illustrate this, go outside and turn on your garden hose to full bore and begin to pinch the hose.  The flow will be choked off, the pressure will increase and the stream will be more turbulent.  This is why you will never see a compression adjuster on a race truck. It goes against everything the major companies have learned over the past decades of building race winning shocks.  When you have bypass technology, you can genuinely tune for increased compression and rebound damping based off where the shock piston is in the shock body, and not just have a blanket turn of knob that is set to where ever you turn it last.

When you purchase from RPG, each shock is custom tuned by us for the ultimate in performance…
